Tom Vance was fishing with partner Ludwig de Mot this morning and they started out the day nicely with a couple of Halibut. This was Tom’s first trip to Ole’s Hakai Pass and his first time salmon fishing. There is a lot of action on the fishing grounds with an abundance of Coho around but Ludwig wanted to put Tom onto a Chinook. At lunch he consulted with Fish Master Joel Morrison and got some specific tips and direction on where and when the best time to be targeting these trophy fish. Other than location and technique an important ingredient was patience which they had in abundance. Taking Joel’s advice paid of big time when Tom caught his first Salmon of the day, putting in over ½ an hour fighting the big fish on the racetrack with coaching from Ludwig, landing Tom on the leader board for the Trip and membership into Ole’s Tyee Club with a 41.5 lb. Chinook. Congratulations to Tom seen here receiving his Tyee Pin from Joel.
