In sadness we say goodbye to Harald Eberhard, … This was to be Harald’s second trip to Ole’s and his very first holiday without his wife of 44 years Gudrun. Harald and his fishing partner Martin Schotte had been planning this return to Ole;s for the past 2 years. They were both excited to land in Vancouver, their adventure about to begin.

For Martin Harald was older brother, father, and the best friend he would ever have all rolled into one.

Martin met Harald on the 1st of August in 1990 when he began his chef training where Harald was the instructor and has been ever since. Harald became Martin’s cornerstone for his cooking career and has been an integral part of his life ever since. Harald was the person Martin could call on day or night, he was always there and never was without an answer.

Harald and Gudrun made a trip to Connecticut to visit Martin and Dagmar when they were living there. This was Martin’s first head chef position and later they would spend 3 beautiful vacations together over the years. Martin was the only person that Harald would let cook in his kitchen.

Gudrun had said “make a men only trip” this time not knowing that such a tragedy would occur. Harald and Martin were like kids in the candy store the day before the flight shopping at the Steveston waterfront for tackle and special lures sure to land a ling cod…..

Martin loved life, he held his family and friends dear and always had a genuine smile to share and he was always there for those around him. He tended bee hives and he loved cooking !

In great sadness we say goodbye Harald, but know that your memory will live on in all those you’ve touched over the years. Our thoughts are with you, your family and your friends.
